The federal government has officially established the National Population Council to tackle Pakistan’s rapidly growing population through a coordinated national strategy.

According to an official notification, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will chair the 16-member council, while Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has been appointed as one of its members. The council also includes the chief ministers of all four provinces, the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Federal ministers for Finance, Planning, Health, Education, Law, Information, and Religious Affairs have also been named as members.
